7.2 Noise Impact
Impact from Noise
Although I am not worried about the noise from aircraft there are other people who are and I can't ignore problems that exist because they do not bother me. It is important to be sympathetic to other people and try to understand what someone else could be dealing with and when it comes to someone's health that is a very important topic. Not only can the noise be annoying to some people while in their homes but the long term and consistent exposure to high noise levels could lead to deterioration the auditory system, sleep disturbance and as well as hearing loss.
The World Health Organization did a report in 2011, stating that majority of the health impacts due to noise comes from aircraft, roads and railways. As we get technologically advanced we start to grow as a nation. People like convivence and it is more convenient for airports to be within the city and close so more people are able to access it. In return this calls for more planes coming in and out and as cities are getting bigger more people are living within those limits. Maybe it is important to look more into where these airports are located to help the overall health impact that aircraft can cause.
Like you, I am unbothered by the noise produced by airports (or roads or railroads). I also did my blog on this topic so I was interested in reading someone else's prospective on the same topic. I do chalk noise up to just being an annoyance to some people but as you have stated as per the World Health Organization, "the majority of health impacts from noise come from [transportation].”
ReplyDeleteI was impressed through my reading that there is so much already in place to reduce the impact of noise produced by airports. They (as in the professionals dedicated to the cause) will only grow and create newer and better technology and techniques to improve the reduction of noise. Two techniques I noted in my blog were “higher altitude, low thrust” used by pilots when landing and the trajectories of arrival and departure. These seem simple enough but make a world of difference!
Good afternoon Joshua,
ReplyDeleteAs someone who lives by an airport and works at an airport, I can assure you what you said in your post is correct. There are many different aspects that come into play with noise pollution based around someone's health. The consistent high level noise in the area can have long term negative effects on that person which is an unnecessary outcome of noise pollution caused by aircraft at and around airports. With the increasing flights and growing of the aviation industry, it is important to make steps in the right direction and attempt to lower noise pollution with the thoughts of our health in mind.
